Haier vs Samsung Refrigerators in India

When you want to choose a refrigerator for your home, you have to think of various factors such as the size of your family, the purpose of usage, budget constraints, etc. The other factor that you look at is brand. Samsung & Haier are amongst top brands in this category. Hence, I decided to a comparison of Haier vs Samsung Refrigerators in India.

There are two main types of refrigerators that you will come across when you set out for shopping. They are direct cool models and frost-free models.

Direct cool refrigerators are quite affordable and great for small families, but they require manual defrosting every day. Frost-free models, on the other hand, are expensive, but they come with an automatic defrost facility, which saves you a great deal of time and effort. Samsung and Haier are two of the leading brands in the refrigerator industry in India. Which is the better brand of the two? Keep reading to know more.

Summary – Haier vs Samsung – Which Refrigerator to Buy?

To begin with I would like to say that I am not a ‘brand person’. I like to compare models based on my needs and buy the brand that best fulfils my needs. I have taken the same approach in this article too. So, instead of blindly saying Brand A is better Brand B, I have recommended the best models for different needs.

For Small Families:

It would be very unfair of me if I recommend only direct cooling or only frost-free models for my readers. I know people have different budget constraints. Based on the features and price, I will recommend two models in the direct-cool and frost-free sections. Here are my recommendations:

If you have budget constraints, then you opt for a direct cool refrigerator. The main drawback if that you will have to remove the frost build-up manually every few days. My top pick would be this 195 Litre model by Haier. A similar model is also available on Flipkart. You can Click Here to compare prices on both websites before placing your order.

My second pick would be this 192 Liter model by Samsung. It is lower on my priority list mainly because of its pricing. The fridge above by Haier is 4 star-rated, while this one is 5 star-rated (i.e. – This product is more energy efficient compared to the product above.).

This fridge by Samsung is also better looking but lost out by a slim margin due to higher pricing. The same machine is available on Flipkart too. So, if you plan to buy this product, do ensure you compare prices on both marketplaces first.Samsung 192 Liter RR20M1Y2XUT HL & RR20M2Y2XUT NL Compared with Haier Refrigerator

For Large Families:

However, if you have a large family or if you can spend a bit higher for a better quality product, I would recommend you to buy a frost-free model. This drastically reduces the amount of time you need maintaining (i.e defrosting) the fridge on a regular basis.

My recommendation in this category would be this 253 Litre double door refrigerator by Samsung. This is an amazing product with literally thousands of positive reviews on Flipkart and Amazon. As with all other models that I have recommended so far. Do compare the price on Flipkart before placing your orders online.

The second product that I would recommend is the HRB-3404BS-R or HRB-3404BS-E by Haier. It has an even higher storage capacity of 320 Litres compared to the Samsung fridge mentioned above.

It is a bottom-mounted refrigerator and provides simpler storage capabilities compared to your regular refrigerator.

Overview of the Samsung and Haier Brands

You might already know that Samsung and Haier are two of the most trusted refrigerator brands in India today. Did you know about their history and their foray into the home appliances market? Here, I have attempted to give a short overview of these brands, so that you can appreciate their value better than before.

Samsung

Samsung is one of the most trusted brands in the refrigerator market in India today. This is because of two reasons – innovation and technology. It was in 2003 that Samsung entered the refrigerator market in the country. In less than two decades, the company has grown to be one of the most liked and respected brands in this category, which is a huge achievement, indeed!

In the year 2017, Samsung launched its first smart IoT(Internet of Things) enabled Family Hub in the Indian market, to cater to the tech-savvy customers of the country. The company is currently the pioneer behind some of the most advanced and premium technologies that you find in refrigerators today such as All-Round Cleaning, Convertible 5-in-1, Digital Inverters and so on.

Haier

Haier, the Chinese company was established in 1984. In the year 2003, it went on to get ranked as No.2 in the largest home appliance brands in the world’s list. If that isn’t called progress, what is? In India, Haier was set up during 2004, with its headquarters at the capital city of Delhi.

Innovation and technology have been the core strengths of Haier as well. The refrigerators from this brand ooze a sense of charm and style that is hard to miss. The technological innovations introduced by Haier have been in line with the changing customer preferences and dynamics. Smart convertible space, three-door refrigerators, etc. are some of these innovations that we can enjoy with Haier refrigerators.

How do the brands fare on various factors?

After reading all of this, it is quite obvious for you to wonder as to which one is better- Samsung or Haier? I am being very honest when I say that both these brands are worth the money you pay for them. In the refrigerator industry, both Samsung and Haier have launched excellent, user-friendly models that give you more than just the cooling feature.

Here, I have tried to analyze these brands on the basis of various common factors such as price, warranty, features and so on. This broad analysis may give you an idea as to which refrigerator you need to buy when you ever need one.

Price

Direct Cool Models

For small families and bachelors, a refrigerator that is 200l or less with a direct cooling facility is more than enough. The Samsung fridge is a 5 star rated, Single-Door Refrigerator.

It is roughly 2 to 3 thousand Rs. more expensive compared to the Haier model. Even though the Samsung fridge looks much better and is also 5 star-rated, I prefer buying the Haier model first. This is mainly because of the price difference that I mentioned above.

The two models has hardly any difference in features. Hence, I prefer to go for the model that costs me less upfront.

Frost-Free Models

When you have a medium-sized family with a maximum of 5 members, you need a refrigerator of around 250-350l capacity. Here, I have chosen two models. If you are looking at an energy-efficient fridge, the Samsung 253l 4-Star, Frost-Free, Double-Door Refrigerator is a good choice for you. This is a great fridge for a family of 2 to 3 members.

However, if you are looking to expand your family to 4 members, I would recommend the Haier 320L 3-Star, Frost-Free, Double-Door Refrigerator for you. Though this is a 3-star energy-rated refrigerator, I would definitely ask you to go for it, if you have a family of 3 to 4 members, purely because of its innovative technology.

Warranty

In the department of warranty, there is not much of a difference between the Samsung and Haier brand of refrigerators. Almost all the models come with a 1-year warranty on product and 10 years warranty on the compressor.

Build quality

Again in the build quality, you will not find much of a difference between the two brands because both of them use toughened glass for their shelves. So, refrigerators from both the brands are highly reliable and durable, according to me.

Features

In the frost-free category, the model the Samsung model that we have recommended (Samsung 253l 4-Star) comes with smart inverter technology, thanks to which you can enjoy uninterrupted cooling options even during power cuts. Also, features such as all-round cooling, twisted ice-tray, toughened glass, stabilizer-free operation, bottle guard, etc. are found in both the models.

Noteworthy technologies used by these brands

Some of the interesting technological innovations that you can find in the Samsung and Haier brand of refrigerators are:

Stabiliser-free operation

Even the basic models of refrigerators from Samsung and Haier (Direct-Cool and Single-Door ones) come with stabilizer-free operation technology. This way, you don’t have to worry when there are voltage fluctuations.

Bar Chrome Handle

Most of the Samsung models come with a stylish Bar Chrome Handle pattern. This not only adds to the visual appeal of the refrigerator but also ensures that you can open and close it smoothly.

Toughened Glass Shelves

The shelves of the Samsung and Haier refrigerators are made from toughened glass. Thanks to this, even a 192l fridge can hold a weight of up to 150kg.

Bottle Guards

This is a very helpful feature found in both brands. You can now store big bottles, small cans, juice packs, etc. with ease and confidence in your refrigerator.

Power Cool

This is a feature that you will in most of the Samsung frost-free, double-door refrigerators. Thanks to this, your foods will be cooled 31% quicker than other brands of refrigerators.

Door Alarm

When you don’t close your Samsung frost-free refrigerator properly, or when you have left it open for more than 2 minutes, you will be intimated with an alarm to alert you.

Digital Inverter Technology

Found in most of the Samsung frost-free refrigerators, this feature enables the refrigerator to adjust the temperature automatically based on the foods stored inside, to increase the freshness and longevity of the foods.

Anti-bacterial Gasket

Both the Samsung and Haier brands of refrigerators come with an anti-bacterial or anti-fungal gasket, which prevents the bacterial or fungal build-up inside the refrigerator.

One-hour Icing Technology

You will find this in some of the Haier frost-free refrigerators. With this, you can get fresh ice cubes within one hour, as this technology automatically sets the freezer temperature to -5 degrees Celsius.

I have discussed almost all the noteworthy technologies that the Samsung and Haier refrigerators use today. When you go for a higher-end model, you may get advanced features than these and vice versa. All you need to do is to take a thorough look at the features and make a qualified decision on the refrigerator that will match your requirements exactly.

Conclusion – Haier vs Samsung Refrigerators

I have done my bit in throwing some light on the Samsung and Haier refrigerator models available in the market today. Now, it is your turn to choose the right model based on the size of your family and budget constraints.

I would recommend you not to invest a lot in high-end models, if you are a bachelor or a 2-member family, as a basic model would suffice for you.

On the contrary, if there are 5 members in your family, don’t go for a low-capacity refrigerator just because it is affordable. A high-capacity refrigerator is definitely expensive, but it is a useful investment for your family in the long run.

This brings me to the end of my review comparing Haier vs Samsung Refrigerators in India. I hope I was able to help you with the right fridge for your kitchen. So, which one did you decide to buy? Do let me know in the comments section below.
